Avoiding enemy planes:

Fly very low to the ground or just above the water. The enemy planes
will ignore you, and you can attack other objectives while your squad
will fight the enemy planes. Using a slow plane will also let you land
and drive along the ground, as long as your throttle is all the way
down.
